I promised I'd update you on my work situation. And since I have about 30 minutes before I need to leave for work today, I decided I'd sit down and write a bit. My good friend and classmate Den pointed me in the direction of a job posting for an art studio assistant position at the local Children's Museum. All they needed was a cover letter and my resume, so I thought, "What have I got to lose?" I applied, got a call for an interview about a week later, and a week after that, they hired me! I started about a week after that. I'm just working Saturdays and Sundays for now while I try to get my art stuff up and running, as well as trying to market myself.
In a nutshell, I'm a glorified babysitter, but it can be fun. I always love the kids who come in and are so passionate about making art. And at the end of the day, I usually have paint on my pants from taking messy smocks off of kids. The messy part makes me feel like I've actually did something besides stand around, welcoming people in.
At some point, maybe I will have a M-F, 9-5 job, but for now, especially right after graduating, I feel good with what I have. I just feel that if I'm going to continue making art, I need to create a base for myself to work off of. I have a few ideas floating around in my head regarding things I can make and sell easily, but also art pieces to make. I'm hoping that after work today and tomorrow I'll have enough energy to sit down and make a plan for the coming week to organize myself to start making something (besides all the knitting projects I'm running through). Who knows!
